Collaborator
“Occupational therapists work effectively within teams to enable participation in occupations by using and promoting shared decision-making approaches” (CAOT, 2012)
My
SKILLS
Being able to work cohesively within an interprofessional and intraprofessional environment not only contributes to a unified health care team, but also is a key determinant in fostering therapeutic relationships with clients. In collaborating with student team members during my graduate degree for projects, interprofessional teams on placement, and rehabilitation society members on council, I work closely with all members in order to ensure the team is working together to achieve a common goal. Please see the “Projects” page for exemplars of different bodies of work completed in teams for more information.
Furthermore, during my second year of occupational therapy, I was able to complete a community development placement with another OT student. In developing a research study in regards to the health literacy level of patients on dialysis with chronic kidney disease, it involved collaboration with a variety of health care professionals. In order to adhere to rigorous research standards, using clear communication with staff, preceptors, and patients on the dialysis unit was crucial in carrying out the project smoothly.
